DCAP Study

My work that was supported financially by the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), highlights these unique challenges while showcasing the versatility of research experiences.

During the DCAP Study (Description of the Cancer Health Services in Saint Lucia: Diagnosis and Treatment Pathways), we interviewed 50 cancer survivors, revealing that over 50% sought treatment overseas (e.g., USA, Martinique, Guyana) due to various factors. We also found significantly longer turnaround times for biopsies taken locally compared to those taken abroad.

Another study focused on the overall cancer experience in Saint Lucia, showing that social support significantly improved survivors' experiences despite suboptimal care. Preliminary research from my study also showed considerable socioeconomic disparities across the cancer care continuum.

My latest achievement is the creation of a project steering committee (CaSIDEC study) including scientists and directors of patient associations across the six member states of the OECS to manage the scientific coordination of a new study in these islands.
